Bayern Munchen - Anderlecht 1 H(0-1) @ 1.6
Few if anyone predicted the result from the first leg, which saw Bayern thrash Anderlecht 5-0 at the Constant Vanden Stock stadium. A fairly even first ten minutes saw the Belgian side have a good go at their German visitors, before Hamit Altintop struck an awesome shot past Zitka.
The sending off of Wasilewski and a second goal from Luca Toni just before half-time really stunned Anderlecht and Bayern were rampant in the second period with further goals from Podolski, Klose and Ribéry.
There is certainly no way back for the Belgian side, who will be playing purely for pride in the second leg at the Allianz Arena.
With a five goal thrashing in the first leg, all hope is lost for Anderlecht in the Uefa Cup this season. To say they need a miracle is perhaps the understatement of the century.
All the ‘Purple and Whites’ have to play for is pride. Another severe beating at hands of Bayern Munich would bring further criticism from a demanding Brussels public.
Ariël Jacobs side have already found themselves under pressure this season with Standard Liege and Club Brugge gunning for the title. Anderlecht are down in fourth in the Jupiler League a full nine points back.
The Belgian side will be looking to get at Bayern early on as they did in the first ten minutes of the first leg. Bayern’s defensive record is extremely strong at the moment so the away side will do well if they are to find a way past the defence in front of Michael Rensing’s goal.
Anderlecht had a 2-0 win at the weekend away to Charleroi so at least arrive in Munich on the back of a positive league result which has seen them move up one place to fifth in their domestic league
Probable starting XI: Rensing - Sagnol, Breno, van Buyten, Lahm - Sosa, van Bommel, Ottl, Kroos - Klose, Podolski
Probable starting XI: Zitka, Gillet, Juhasz, Deschacht, van Damme, Biglia, Polak, Boussoufa, Goor, Frutos, Serhat
