UEFA - InterToto Cup: Odense vs Aston Villa
Aston Villa will look to continue where they left off last season and try to repeat the way they played last year when they played maybe the best football in England. Odense on the other side who is led by Lars Olsen who captained the Danish side in their Euro 92 triumph, will try to exploit the fact that Aston Villa are still not in their top form with a couple of weeks left until the beginning of the Premier league

Danish team qualified for this year’s Intertoto Cup by finishing fourth in Denmark national league. Odense is regular in the European competitions over the last years, mainly in the Uefa Cup and is looking to continue that tradition. The ambitious trainer Lars Olsen believes that his team can build on their two victories over TPS and surprise big premiership club. Odense has an experienced squad with two stars, ex Denmark national team players Morten Bisgaard and Thomas Helveg. As their coach says they like to play possession football but realizes that they will not have many chances against Aston Villa and will have to take the ones they will have. Odense should be in good form because their domestic season gets under way this weekend.

With one month before the start of the Premiership, Aston Villa hopes that even though they are not prepared for competitive matches, the quality of their squad will prove enough for going through to the Uefa Cup. We will see if the club is rocked by speculation regarding Gareth Barry's future, who has started training but will not be on the list of travelers to Denmark. But the new signing Steve Sidwell will be on the plane together with the rest of the Villa stars Agbonlahor, Young, Carew, Reo-Coker and others. Aston Villa kept the squad that played beautiful football last season, full of pace and flair.
Their manager Martin O’Neil will make sure the lads do not come into the game too relaxed and get the job done.
Prediction
If the match took place during the season I would have no doubts that Villa would win the game, but since they only played three pre season friendlies, losing last one to Lincoln 3:1 and are far away from their top form as oppose to Odense whose domestic season starts this weekend, I think that both teams will be satisfied if they get a draw from this game therefore my prediction is a draw

NAC Breda had an excellent season in Dutch league and finished 3rd but after losing heavily to Twente in the play offs had to satisfy with the place in the Intertoto Cup, while Rosenborg had yet another disappointing season in Norway finishing 5th. Rosenborg, whose season started in March will be in better position than Breda whose national championship doesn’t start until the last days of August.Can Breda make the most of last season?After a great last season which was unexpected for even their own fans, NAC Breda is hoping to make the most of the last year success and get to the qualifying round of the Uefa Cup. After a big success Breda management made a surprise decision to fire the coach and now the team is led by Robert Maaskant, who came from MVV Maastricht.
Most notable players include Anthony Lurling, Jonas Kolkka who plays for Finland national team and Ghanian forward Matthew Amoah. The new coach will not have full squad to choose from as Edwin De Graaf, Kurt Elshot and Tim Gilissen are injured.Are the glory days over?After the glories years of Rosenborg when they won 13 league titles in a row, at the moment they don’t seem to remember the recipe for success. They finished 5th last season and are currently 8th in the league which is certainly bad result for them. They have very good team when we look at the names, including Sweden national team defender Fredric Stoor, former Tottenham forward Steffen Iversen and a player with excellent potential Per Ciljan Skjelbred who orchestrates Rosenborg midfield.
Two defenders are injured, Demidov and Stadsgaard which means that young Nordvik will play at the center of defence. Rosenborg are not playing well in the league, they have 18 points from 13 games, but they were very convincing against Ekranas winning both games and scoring 7 goals.

Rosenborg’s form haven’t been great lately, but they are in full training and thez have hinted against Ekranas that they might be coming out of crisis.
