It’s the moment of truth for two teams who are making their maiden appearance in the Champions League knockout round. A place in the quarter-finals beckons, and one of them will have a chance to write a new chapter into their history books, while the other will have to pack up and go home with nothing more than fond memories. Turkish champions Fenerbahçe will travel to Andalucia to take on double UEFA Cup winners Sevilla with a 3-2 advantage, but with 90 minutes of football still to play, it is very much anyone’s game. Sevilla crashed to their fourth away defeat in seven at the weekend when they threw away the lead and crumbled to a 2-1 loss at Deportivo La Coruña. But at home, they have been almost indomitable, winning six of their last eight at the Sánchez-Pizjuán and drawing the other two - both to Barcelona. It is that solid home form that the Andalucians will rely on to help overturn the 3-2 first leg deficit against Fenerbahçe and book their ticket to the final eight of Europe’s premier competition. Manolo Jiménez’s side were by no means outplayed in the first leg in Istanbul as they matched their Turkish counterparts stride for stride. And they even showed their renowned fighting spirit by twice coming from behind to level matters before succumbing to a late 87th minute winner from substitute Semih Şentürk.
