Cagliari - Juventus

Juventus travel to Sardinia in matchday 3 of the 2008/09 Serie A campaign but it will not be a holiday for the Bianconeri as Cagliari are looking to make life hard for the Old Lady...

Cagliari Looking To Bounce Back

Massimiliano Allegri’s men just about survived last season as a nice run towards the end of the 2007/08 campaign ensured they stayed up. Another difficult campaign is on the cards this time and it seems as if the team will be in for one more roller coaster ride. At the moment, the ride is pointing downwards for the Isolani with no wins in two games, conceding six goals and scoring two in the process.

Such form has got relegation written all over it.However, their focus will need to be deflected from the Serie A table as the grand Old Lady comes to town on Sunday. It’s not the game any Rossoblu fan would have wanted, given the fact the club are desperate for some points and it will not be easy against a very confident Juventus side.
The Cagliari coach is well aware of the task in hand and he warned his players to get their act together following last week’s loss to Siena.
Allegri knows that any slip ups are likely to have club president Massimo Celino ready to pull out the sack from under the table and thus he expects his side to bounce back this weekend.Goals mean points and points mean survival in this part of the calcio World. All eyes will be on Robert Acquafresca.

The under-21 international was the club’s top-scorer last season and he will be on hand to lend his support against mighty Juventus. The Isolani are not expected to win this game given their recent shambles but the possibility of a draw seems very high.
Cagliari know that Juve will be tired and fatigued from their European exploits on Wednesday night and thus their confidence and morale should be raise, if only a little.

Confident Old Lady

Juventus travel to the Stadio Sant’Elia full of confidence following an impressive seven days of football. A win against Udinese last week got their Scudetto chasing campaign and that was followed up in midweek with a fine, but hard fought win over Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League as their hunt for European success got up and running.

The Bianconeri will be favourites to take all three points off a struggling Cagliari side but the Old Lady and Pavel Nedved are leaving nothing to chance as the Czech midfielder is well aware that it will not be a Sunday stroll in the park for his side.“The game against Cagliari will not be easy for us. They will want to fight back following their recent results and we are tired from the Champions League but we will go there to win,” said Nedved.

Cagliari will be without Michele Canini for the game against Juve. The young defender was injured against Siena, he had to come off on a stretcher and he is unlikely to feature this week. Robert Acquafresca may get the nod as he seems to be back to full fitness. Daniele Conti is back and ready while Diego Lopez will be available following his suspension.

Juventus

Jorge Andrade, Cristiano Zanetti and Jonathan Zebina are all on the sidelines and David Trezeguet has been added to that list after he complained of a knee problem which has ruled him out of contention. Mauro Camoranesi picked up a minor knock against Zenit and he came off as a precaution in that match but he may feature at some point against the Isolani.

Cagliari: Marchetti; Pisano, Bianco, Lopez, Agostini; Biondini, Cossu, Parola; Lazzari; Larrivey, Acquafresca.
Juventus: Buffon; Grygera, Legrottaglie, Mellberg, Molinaro; Salihamidzic; Sissoko, Poulsen, Nedved; Iaquinta, Amauri.
